Carole Howes

Director, Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist,
BSc(Hons) Speech and Language Pathology, PGDip Spld, MRCSLT, MASLTIP, HCPCReg

I graduated as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1999 and have been based in North West England ever since. Earlier in my career I worked for the NHS Sector and was based in Community Clinics and Mainstream Schools. I also helped to set up a stammering clinic providing support for children and young adults who stammered.  Having made the decision to start working in the independent sector in 2005, I have run my own speech and language clinic for families and developed a service for schools and nurseries

I love helping children and young adults to get them talking. I also love supporting families and teaching staff – building confidence and providing strategies of how they can help their children in every day opportunities. I have extensive experience and training in many areas such as early language development, speech sound difficulties, social communication difficulties and stammering in children and young adults.

Prior to qualifying as a speech and language therapist I had a career in IT, designing and writing software. I enjoy using technology wherever I can in my clinical work.

Great resources to support vocabulary development in the home and schools

Autism in girls can look quite different from what we often see in boys. Eloise explains how she coped with her difficulties:

Second week of launching vocabulary software Chatty Words. Trying to close the vocabulary gap with young children. 180 specially designed nouns with research-based approach to learning. Headteachers seem very keen so far #vocabulary

Enjoying training staff from Kirkby Collaborative about speech and language #blank #vocabulary #sltapps

Enjoying learning about "Social Thinking and Emotions" with Michelle Garcia Winner. It's giving me so much to think about in terms of "emotions" and its impact on social and academic learning.
